Operatic tenor who was known for playing the title role in the opera Otello.
He began his career as a baritone.
He played Otello in a televised performance in 1948, the first telecast of an entire opera from the Met.
He was born to Jean Vinay and Rosa Sepulveda in the town of Chillan.
He and Alejandro Silva were both Chilean singers.
