Novelist
Known for such fantasy and science fiction novel series as Forgotten Realms and The DemonWars Saga, he also penned the debut book in the Star Wars: New Jedi Order series. More than twenty of his popular works became New York Times bestsellers.
He earned degrees in English and communications from Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. His first novel, The Crystal Shard (part of the Icewind Dale Trilogy), was published in the late 1980s.
A video game contributor as well as a novelist, he created the storyline for the popular 2004 game Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone.
He and his six siblings grew up in Leominster, Massachusetts. He later married Diane Salvatore.
During his college years, he was inspired by author J.R.R. Tolkien's their, three-volume fantasy work, The Lord of the Rings.
