She attended Princeton University where she studied urban planning and architecture.
She met her husband, the King of Jordan, in 1977 while working for Royal Jordanian Airlines, where she would often attend various high-profile social events as the Director of Facilities Planning and Design.
She is the widow of Hussein of Jordan and is the daughter of a government official and aviator.
She served on the board of the Daniel Pearl Foundation alongside Bill Clinton.
