Iranian major general who commanded the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and clandestine Quds Force as Iran's top intelligence figure. He was killed by a US drone air strike in January 2020 in Baghdad, Iraq, in a move approved by Donald Trump.
He joined the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in 1979 shortly after the Iranian Revolution. He would later serve as a military field commander during the Iran-Iraq Qar in the 1980's.
He was listed by the US State Department as a "known terrorist." The 2016 Iranian film Bodyguard was inspired by him and his career in the Iranian military and intelligence.
He had two sons and two daughters. He was one of nine total children.
He helped the Bashar Al-Assad regime during the Syrian Civil War.
