The youngest child of England's Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II who is twelfth in the line of succession.
He was accepted to Cambridge despite having far inferior grades and is the fourth of only five members of the Royal Family in history to have obtained a university degree.
He has taken over the Duke's role in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, attending Gold Award ceremonies around the world ever since his father began to relinquish some of his duties due to old age.
He married Sophie Rhys-Jones, a public relations executive, in June 1999. The couple has a son named James and a daughter named Lady Louise.
He is the son of Queen Elizabeth II.
