Pratibha Patil
Politician
Indian politician who was Governor of Rajasthan from 2004 to 2007, and was the 12th president of India from 2007 to 2012. She was the first woman to hold both of those offices.
She served in the Legislative Assembly of Maharashta, her hometown, and served in the Parliament from 1985 to 1990.
During her presidency, she commuted the sentences of 35 prisoners from death to life in prison, a move which garnered much scrutiny.
She married her husband, Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat, in 1965. The couple had two children.
After she retired from the presidency at the end of her term, she was succeeded by Pranab Mukherjee in 2012.
