Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis

A scientist who founded the Indian Statistical Institute and is remembered for the statistical measure known as Mahalanobis distance.He was also the President of the Indian Science Congress in 1950.
He studied physiology at Edinburgh University.
He received the Padma Vibhushan, one of India's highest civilian awards, for his contributions to the sciences.
His grandfather, Gurucharan, opened a chemist shop in 1860.
He worked as a secretary for Nobel Prize-winning author Rabindranath Tagore.
