Actress known as La Bardem in Spain, where she gained fame for her acting roles but also for espousing left-wing political views. She starred in Compuesta y Sin Novio, Hermanas, El Inquilino and Amar en Tiempos Revueltos.

In October of 1961, she married José Carlos Encinas Doussinague. She is the mother of Javier Bardem, as well as Carlos and Monica. She is the sister of film director Juan Antonio Bardem. Her parents, Rafael Bardem and Matilde Sampedro, were both performers as well.
