In his early twenties, he was a drummer at New York's Cafe Society.
He collaborated on albums with Elmo Hope, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley, and Bill Evans.
He married Eloise Woods Jones.
He and Charlie Rouse both played music by Tadd Dameron.
