Creator of their little blue monsters, The Smurfs. At the Angouleme International Comics Festival in 1984, he was presented with the Youth Prize (9-12 years) Award.
He took his name, Peyo, early on in his career because of his English cousin's mispronunciation of Pierrot.
In the film adaptation of The Smurfs in 2011, he was written in, claiming to be researching the myths of the little blue creatures.
His father died of a heart attack on Christmas Eve in 1992.
He worked in the film adaptation of The Smurfs along with actor Alan Cumming.
