He was raised in Stoke Heath, Coventry, Warwickshire. He dropped out of Whitley Abbey Comprehensive School to work at a railway depot.
He co-presented the show The Hit Man and Her with Michaela Strachan.
He was married to his third wife, Denise Gyngell, from 1991 to 1999. He has two children named Toni Tuesday and Charlie Ella.
He turned down offers to participate in The X Factor and American Idol, which were produced by Simon Cowell.
