Australian politician who became a Senator for South Australia in 2002. She went on to become the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate becoming the first woman in the country's history to hold the title.
She attended the University of Adelaide where she became involved with the University Labor Club.

She began a relationship with Sophie Allouache in 2005.
