He began his career by working on modernist designs.
He helped design the Pirita Yachting Center in Tallinn in preparation for the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
He was raised in Rakvere, Estonia.
His architectural career took off a generation after that of world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
