Paula Fox
Memoirist
An American author of both memoirs and children's books, she is particularly known for The Slave Dancer and A Place Apart. She received the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1978.
She studied at Columbia University. She published Maurice's Room, her first work of children's fiction, in 1966.
She won the National Book Award for Children's Fiction for A Place Apart.
She married her third husband, Martin Greenberg, in 1962. Her second marriage, to Richard Sigerson, produced two sons.
She and Sharon Creech were both recipients of the prestigious Newbery Medal.
