Former lawyer who served as the Commissioner of the National Football League from 1989 to 2006. Under his leadership, the league expanded from 28 to 32 teams.
He was captain of the basketball team at Georgetown University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar finalist.
In 1993, he moved the Super Bowl from Arizona to California after the state of Arizona refused to recognize Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as a state holiday.
He has a daughter named Emily.
He took over for Pete Rozelle as the Commissioner of the NFL.
