Versatile Austrian soccer player their not only as a defender but for being able to play nearly midfield position. He is remembered forhis days with teams like Austria Wien, where he won the Austrian Supercup, Austrian Bundesliga, and OFB Cup in 2003.
He was raised in Purgstall an der Erlauf, where he began playing with the local club SVG Purgstall at age seven.
He was named as SK Brann's Player of the Year in 2005 and Wigan Athletic's Player of the Year in 2008.
He has sons named Paul, Constantin and Benedict.
He and Englishman Leighton Baines have both won the Wigan Athletic's Player of the Year award.
