Musician, composer, author, and technology executive. He founded the popular Canadian pop band Lighthouse and, as a member of the National Research Council of Canada, created an early version of the MP3.
He attended the University of Toronto, where he earned degrees in physics and mathematics.
He served as Chairman the Screen Composers Guild of Canada.
Born in New York City, he later settled in Canada, where he taught at York University and received the prestigious Order of Canada honor.
He served as president of the United States chapter of the Glenn Gould Foundation, an organization established to honor Canadian pianist Glenn Gould.
