Mathematician who made important contributions the study of set theory.
He entered graduate school at the University of Chicago after just two years of undergraduate study.
He was awarded the Fields Medal in Mathematics in 1966 and the the National Medal of Science the following year.
He grew up around Long Branch, New Jersey in a Jewish family that emigrated from Poland.
He and Max Born both became known for their many important breakthroughs in math and science.
