He played Denzil in Only Fools, and portrayed Horses and Horse in The Full Monty during his 30-year acting career. He also played Denzi in Only Fools.
He made his stage debut in the musical Hair, and starred as Lucky Ubootu in the 1974 production of Lucky.
He appeared in the 1979 film, Porridge and the 1980 film, The Long Good Friday.
When his mother died from tuberculosis he entered the Merseyside care facility. His brother Brian later became a security guard.
In 2010, he played a fanatic shop owner in author Terry Pratchett's film, Going Postal.
