As the lead singer of the harmony trio Andrews Sisters, she recorded hits such as "Puff the Magic Dragon" and "I Left My Heart In San Francisco."
She was twelve years old when she won the local Orpheum Theatre talent competition.
She and her sisters sang "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and put on shows for Allied soldiers during WWII.
She married Martin Melcher on October 19, 1947; after their divorce on March 30, 1950, she married Melvin Walter Weschler on December 25, 1951.
Her sister was the well-known musician and member of Andrews Sisters, Laverne Andrews.
