He was chosen 51st overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
He was selected to his first NHL All-Star game during the 1999-2000 season.
He grew up in Třebíč, Czechoslovakia. He married Petra Volakova in 2007 and he has a daughter named Sophia.
He won 2 Stanley Cup Championships with goaltender Martin Brodeur on the New Jersey Devils.
