Renowned costume designer whose Broadway design credits include productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Chicago, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Into the Woods, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and The Crucible.
She studied sociology and psychology at Wellesley College. She designed costumes for her first Broadway show, The Potting Shed, in 1957.
She designed costumes for such films as The Graduate and 1776.
She married Colonel Robert O'Brien, Jr. in 1993. He had proposed to her five decades earlier and she had, at that point, refused his offer; however, the two became re-acquainted in their seventies.
She designed costumes for Broadway productions choreographed by the legendary Bob Fosse.
