Pat Nixon
First Lady
Devoted wife of Richard Nixon, who was President of the United States from 1969 to 1974. She was the first First Lady to visit a combat zone and she acquired more art work for the White House than any other First Lady.
While in high school, she was employed as a janitor and bookkeeper at the local bank and assisted the family farm.
As First Lady she acquired more historic art pieces and furnishings for the White House than any other previous administration.
She married future President Richard Nixon in June 1940 after he proposed to her on their first date together. She had two daughters by him.
She stood by Richard Nixon's side after he was forced to resign following the Watergate scandal.
