Internationally renowned Indian classical dancer specialized in the Bharatanatyam style.
She trained at the dance school established by her father, later studying under Guru Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai, one of South India's best known performers.
She pioneered the Pushpanjali dance, and as a choreographer popularized many techniques commonplace in Indian dance.
Her father K. Subramaniam was a well-regarded filmmaker, and her mother a composer and songwriter.
She and Aditi Rao Hydari were two of India's best known bharatnatyam dancers.
