He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, where he wrote for the school newspaper The Harvard Crimson.
His article on racial diversity among Ivy League athletes was named Sports Story of the Year by the Associated Collegiate Press in 2007.
Both of his parents are from the Philippines.
He and Denver-based sportswriter Woody Paige have both been panelists on ESPN's Around the Horn.
