Known for such popular R&B singles as "Trying To Live My Life Without You" and "All Because Of Your Love," this Mississippi-born soul vocalist was nominated for a Grammy Award and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
In the early years of his music career, he performed with such local gospel groups as the Christian Travelers, the Voices of Hope, and the Holy Wonders. His first R&B hit, "That's How It Is (When You're In Love)," debuted in 1967.
His best-known pop/rock track was a cover of the Sir Douglas Quintet's hit "She's About a Mover."
A native of Waxhaw, Mississippi, he spent the latter half of his childhood in Muncie, Indiana. He later lived and worked in both Nashville, Tennessee and Chicago, Illinois.
