American Methodist-Pentecostal televangelist and founder of Oral Roberts University who was a controversial religious leader in the 20th century.
He grew up desperately poor and almost died of tuberculosis at a young age.
He pioneered TV evangelism and preached a form of Christianity called seed-faith to millions of followers worldwide over a period of six decades.
He married Evelyn Lutman in 1938. He raised two sons named Richard and Ronald Roberts and two daughters named Roberta Potts and Rebecca Roberts.
He stated live on an interview with Larry King that he was of Cherokee descent.
