Oliver Smith
Production Designer
Famous for his multi-Tony Award-winning scenic design work, he created the sets for such popular Broadway musicals as West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Camelot, and On the Town. Also a cinematic art director, he received an Academy Award nomination for his work on the 1955 movie musical Guys and Dolls.
After graduating from Pennsylvania State University, he began his career as a scenic designer by working on the ballets Saratoga (1941) and Rodeo (1942).
He taught at New York University's their Tisch School of the Arts.
A native of Waupun, Wisconsin, he later settled in New York City.
He and Catherine Martin both won Tony Awards for their scenic design work on Broadway.
