Former tennis star who won the U.S. Open three straight years from 1890 to 1892. He became a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1955.
He won the men's title at the U.S. National Championships in 1888, when he was just 17 years old.
He captured doubles titles at the U.S. Open in 1888, 1891 and 1892.
Grew up in Brooklyn, New York.
He was the youngest player to win a U.S. singles title at 19 years, 6 months and 9 days. His record was broken a century later by the great Pete Sampras, who won the 1990 U.S. Open at 19 years and 28 days old.
