Oleg Losev
Engineer
Russian scientist who observed light emission from carborundum point-contact junctions which became the first light-emitting diode or LED.
He worked as a radio technician which led to his discovery that crystal diodes used in radio receivers emitted light when there was current passed through them.
He first published details about the LED in a 1927 Russian journal.
He came from a high-ranking Russian family in Tver, Russia.
Like him, Dmitri Mendeleev was also a Russian scientist.
