Japanese actress who won a Japanese Academy Award in the Best Actress category in 1988 for her role in the film, A Taxing Woman.
She was born in Otaru, Hokkaidō but was raised in Nagoya. She debuted in one of her first films, Lost Sex, in 1966.
She was nominated eight times for a Japanese Academy Award before winning one in 1988.
She married director, Juzo Itami in 1969 and starred in many of his films. He committed suicide in 1997 after allegations of an affair surfaced.
She won a Japanese Academy Award like Aya Ueto.
