English former footballer who led England to its first FIFA World Cup title in 1966. The image of him hoisting the World Cup Trophy on the pitch at Wembley is one of English sport's most enduring images.
He was raised in Collyhurst and was a fan of Manchester United.
He wore false teeth due to his real teeth having been knocked out during a match.
He married his wife Kay, sister of footballer Johnny Giles, in 1961. They had three children together.
He won the 1966 FIFA World Cup alongside English team captain Bobby Moore.
