Greek poet and author whose best-known works include Marabou, Fog, and other poetry collections. His prose works include Of War/On My Horse and The Shift.
He fought in World War II. During the war years, he joined both the Communist Party and the National Liberation Front.
His novel The Shift focuses on the lives of sailors.
He was born in Russia to Greek parents. When he was eleven years old, he and his family moved to the Port of Athens.
His writing was deeply influenced by the work of Charles Baudelaire.
