Boxer who's held the English and British middleweight titles at various points in his career. He fought Max Bursak for the Continental WBA middleweight title in 2013, but lost by unanimous decision.
He made his professional debut in 2009, having grown up fighting as a white-collar boxer. He won his first eight fights before suffering a loss to Martin Murray.
In March 2016, he lost his British middleweight title to Chris Eubank, Jr. by TKO. He was beaten badly during the loss and placed in a medically-induced coma after the fight, remaining there for nearly a week. He woke up from the coma on April 4th, but the doctors who took care of him said it was likely the end of his career.
He grew up in Trowbridge, England.
During the Eubank, Jr. fight, the elder Chris Eubank could be heard advising his son to stop hitting Blackwell in the head, as he felt that doing so could cause permanent damage. Eubank, Sr. had a similar experience during his own career when he knocked out Michael Watson, who nearly died after the fight.
