She took up basketball in college, studying pre-medicine, and was given captainship of the Australian Indoor Junior team.
Away from the volleyball net, she launched a volleyball-related business, Sandstorm, and wrote a book, giving frequent guest lectures.
She married another beach volleyballer, Sarah Maxwell.
Shane Gould was another Australian Olympian, participating as a torch bearer in the 2000 Sydney Games.
