Belgian fusion singer whose music combines elements of Arabic pop, Western hip-hop, and reggae.
She was a member of Transglobal Underground, a global fusion band, before she released her first solo album, Diaspora, in 1995.
She was appointed in 2001 as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Conference Against Racism.
She was born to a British-Islamic mother and a Palestinian-Egyptian-Moroccan father. She was briefly married to Syrian musician Abdullah Chhadeh.
She collaborated with singer Belinda Carlisle on Carlisle's 2007 album, Voila.
