Known for her roles in such Hindi films as Joroo Ka Ghulam and Ittefaq, this popular actress won a 1960 Filmfare Award for her supporting role in Anchal.
She began her entertainment career as a child actress, appearing in such late 1940s and early 1950s movies as Jagriti and Mandir.
She became their after starring in the 1959 movie Chhoti Bahen.
Though she was, at one point, engaged to producer and director Manmohan Desai, she never ended up marrying Desai (who died in a tragic accident) or anyone else, and she spent her last years in Mumbai with her family and friends.
She and actor Shashi Kapoor appeared together in eight films of the 1960s and early 1970s.
