Feature film adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1838 novel of the same name. The story is centered around a young orphaned boy who is forced into labor at a workhouse. This adaptation was directed by controversial director Roman Polanski.

It premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival. Filming took place throughout the Czech Republic.
