Upon returning to Earth from a life-changing mission in space, an astronaut begins to unravel as she loses touch with reality and a connection to her family. The movie is loosely based on Lisa Nowak's criminal activities.

The Noah Hawley-directed film was originally titled Pale Blue Dot. It is Hawley's directorial feature debut, but he has previously directed episodes of his television shows Fargo and Legion.
