Moonlight Graham
Baseball Player
Right fielder - for one game - for the New York Giants who inspired the novel Shoeless Joe and the Oscar-nominated movie Field of Dreams.
He was a power hitter in the New England Leagues while pursuing his medical degree.
He practiced medicine in Chisholm, Minnesota, for 54 years, and might have been a history footnote if not for an author who came across his entry in a baseball encyclopedia.
His brother Frank Porter Graham was president of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later a North Carolina Senator.
Burt Lancaster played him, as a doctor and aspring baseball player, in Field of Dreams - though in the movie, Graham does get to bat.
