English actress who became known for her role as Mrs. Slocombe in the popular British television show, Are You Being Served?
She worked in Keighley at a munitions factory where she made shells for the Royal Navy. Afterwards, she studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
She bleached her hair white for her first episode in Are You Being Served? and began dying it for every episode thereafter.
She was married to William Moore from 1958 until 2000 and they had two children together.
She starred in the 1960s television series Hugh and I with Cyril Smith.
