Minor White
Photographer
Expressionist photographer who used the camera to reveal internal feelings.
He developed an interest in photography at a young age but left the medium in favor of studies in botany and poetry. He later returned to photography in twenties.
His meeting in New York with fellow artistic photographers Edward Steichen and Alfred Stieglitz inspired him to develop his own style and the use of sequences of photographs to express emotion.
He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was invited by Ansel Adams to form the first fine art photography department, at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
