Prolific singer nicknamed "The Queen of Screamers" whose many chart-topping albums, including Studio Uno and Baby Gate, made her one of the biggest names in Italian music history. She became a sensation in the 60's and 70's for her three-octave vocal range and sensual "bad girl" image.
She was a competitive swimmer for the sports club Canottieri Baldesio as a teenager.
Due to the prevailing conservative attitudes of the time, her pregnancy from married actor Corrado Pani caused her to be banned from Italian TV and radio in 1963.
Her real name is Anna Maria Quaini. She married Swiss cardiologist Eugenio Quaini in 2006. She has their children named Massimiliano Pani and Benedetta Mazzini from previous relationships.
Her cover of Jody Miller's "He Walks Like a Man" became the biggest-selling Italian single of 1964.
