Milt Hinton
Bassist
One of the best jazz bassists of his generation who played with Zutty Singleton and other popular jazz musicians of the 1920s.
He learned to play bass, violin, and cello in school and, after a brief period playing bass, he switched to double bass.
As a freelance musician he worked with Cab Calloway's band, with whom he developed his slapping technique.
He was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
He worked with Dizzy Gillespie and together they modernized Cab Calloway's music for a new generation.
