Hall of Fame MLB second baseman who played for the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals between 1904 and 1916; won 3 World Series Championships as manager of the New York Yankees from 1918 to 1929.
He played under the fake name 'Proctor' to preserve his amateur status and so that his father wouldn't know he played in the MLB.
He decided to go into baseball while studying law and managing the school baseball team at the University of Cincinnati.
He was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio.
William Howard Taft, one of his professors at Cincinatti, encouraged him to get into baseball.
