He began his senior career at FC Banik Ostrava, Czech soccer's top division, and then transferred to Liverpool.
He was the Turkish Super Lig top scorer in 2008-09 and led Galatasaray to the league title in 2011-12.
He and his wife Tereza Frankova welcomed their first child in 2009.
He and Felipe Melo both played for Galatasaray.
