Road cyclist who has had great success as a member of Team Sky, Euskaltel-Euskadi and Orbea-Oreka SDA. He has placed first in individual stages at the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España, claiming the King of the Mountains prize in 2016.
He turned professional with Euskaltel-Euskadi in 2009.
He described his victory in the fifteenth stage of the 2011 Giro d'Italia as the most difficult stage of his life.
He was born in Leitza, Spain.
He has ridden with British cyclist Chris Froome as a member of Team Sky.
