Legendary British film director who worked with Emeric Pressburger to produce 49th Parallel, Red Shoes, and others.
He formed The Archers production company with Pressburger, and he gained wide acclaim for his films of the 1940s, many of which were nominated for Oscars.
His career was almost completely ended with the 1960 film Peeping Tom, which was critically panned after its initial release.
He was married three times, including to renowned editor Thelma Schoonmaker.
He worked for Alfred Hitchcock early in his career. This association may have inspired his Peeping Tom movie.
