Michael Kiwanuka
Rock Singer
Indie rock singer and songwriter who broke through to mainstream acclaim with his 2019 album Kiwanuka. His album won the 2020 Mercury Prize, and he was subsequently nominated for the 2021 Grammy Award for best rock album.
He studied at the School of Media, Arts, and Design at the University of Westminster. He found work as a session guitarist before going solo.
In 2020 he was nominated for the Brit Awards for British Male Solo Artist and British Album of the Year for his album Kiwanuka. His 2016 album Love & Hate reached #1 in the UK albums chart.
His parents fled Uganda during the regime of dictator Idi Amin.
He played as a session guitarist for Bashy.
