Known for his work on the screenplays of such 1930s and '40s films as A Yank at Oxford and Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca, this screenwriter also pursued a career as an actor, appearing in such 1930s films as Dance Pretty Lady and The Flag Lieutenant.
Early in his career, he played the role of Lieutenant Donop in the 1928 British silent film Bolibar.
His final acting role was in a 1936 thriller titled The Last Journey.
He was born and raised in London, England, and he died in his hometown at the age of eighty-three.
He co-wrote the screenplay for Fortunes of Captain Blood, a 1950 pirate movie starring Louis Hayward.
